Students worldwide are voicing concerns that artificial intelligence may one day replace them in their future careers. Artificial Intelligence already shows a strong influence on students as they choose their college major.

Based on a survey from The Lumina Foundation, 47% out of current college students have considered switching their major “a fair amount” or “a great deal”. Out of all these respondents, 16% claimed AI was the main reason why.

Universities are finding it difficult to keep up with the quick changes and difficulties AI brings. Not to mention that students are realizing how AI is altering the labor market.

According to the survey, men, associate's degree candidates, and students majoring in technology, vocational, or humanities were more likely to think about changing careers because of AI. Students in disciplines like health care and the natural sciences are the least likely to have thought about changing their major.

There is a valid reason to be concerned about how AI may affect the occupations that students are seeking, as reports of job losses as a result of the technology have only escalated in recent years.
