BME Named ESCI Champion by the European Commission for Advancing Student Mobility

The European Commission has awarded Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) the prestigious ESCI Champion title for the 2025–2027 period. This award recognizes BME’s outstanding role in implementing the European Student Card Initiative (ESCI) and advancing digital solutions within Erasmus+ mobility.

BME earned the title thanks to its significant progress in rolling out the European Student Card Initiative, a program designed to make student mobility across Europe simpler, faster, and fully digital. ESCI enables students to prove their status online, access university services such as libraries or sports facilities abroad, and complete Erasmus+ administrative processes without paper-based bureaucracy.

Among 123 institutions from 30 countries, BME stood out for its effective adoption of the Erasmus Without Paper system, significantly streamlining mobility administration for both incoming and outgoing students. This achievement not only improves the exchange experience but also places BME alongside top European universities as a leader in digital innovation for international education.
