The Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus–Senftenberg in Germany offers a range of scholarships, especially through its Graduate Research School (GRS), to support both aspiring and enrolled doctoral candidates in pursuing their PhDs. These scholarships aim to foster high-quality research across disciplines at BTU and are open through an ongoing call that closes September 24, 2025, for both full and dissertation-completion scholarships.

Eligibility

  • Be enrolled or accepted for a PhD or doctoral program at BTU.
  • Applicants must have secured a supervisor’s acceptance (Betreuungszusage).
  • Applicants should demonstrate outstanding academic performance, research motivation, and originality.

    • Full PhD Scholarship: 3 years (36 months)
    • Short-term PhD Scholarships: 6 months

Program Benefits (Scholarships Available)

BTU offers two main types of doctoral funding under this call:

  1. Full PhD Scholarship (up to 36 months)
    • Monthly stipend of €1,500, plus a €150/month family allowance per child, if applicable.
  2. PhD Scholarship for Completion (6 months)
    • Designed for the final dissertation phase, with similar monthly funding.

Note: The scholarship can begin as early as January 2026, but funding may start at a later date.

For Full PhD Scholarships (up to 36 months):

  • Scholarship declaration form
  • Letter of motivation
  • Curriculum Vitae (max 2 pages)
  • Supervisor’s acceptance letter (“Betreuungszusage”)
  • Research proposal
  • Academic transcripts and degree copies (Bachelor, Master)
  • Proof of doctoral admission (or submission later)
  • Visa copy (if applicable)
  • Two letters of recommendation (one from your BTU supervisor, one from another professor)

For Short-Term (Completion) Scholarships (6 months):

  • Declaration form
  • Letter of motivation
  • CV with publication list (max 2 pages)
  • Progress report (4–6 pages)
  • Transcripts and degree certificates
  • Proof of doctoral admission
  • Visa copy (if applicable)
  • Supervisor’s report confirming the feasibility of dissertation completion within 6 months
