According to China Talk, China’s Ministry of Education announced on Friday that artificial intelligence (AI) will be incorporated into teacher qualification exams and certification, as part of a broader effort to integrate AI across the national education system.

According to the official action plan, AI will be used throughout the entire teaching process—from lesson preparation and classroom instruction to post-class assessment—with the goal of improving efficiency and reducing teachers’ workload. Intelligent teaching systems will assist with tasks such as automated grading, answering students’ questions, and providing tutoring support. AI tools will also analyze classroom teaching behavior to help educators enhance the quality of instruction.

The plan further emphasizes accelerating AI education among primary and secondary school students by ensuring the availability of well-designed courses. AI will be fully integrated into local curricula, with guidelines outlining learning objectives, content, and instructional hours at different educational levels. Schools are encouraged to explore interdisciplinary AI teaching and incorporate it into extracurricular programs and research-based learning activities.

To cultivate high-level talent for the intelligent era, universities will be required to offer AI as a general foundational course. Specialized teaching materials will be developed across disciplines to ensure that all students acquire basic AI knowledge. Higher education institutions will also be guided to optimize traditional programs, introduce interdisciplinary AI courses, and expand cross-disciplinary training to develop versatile talent.

In line with industrial transformation, universities will adjust academic programs and establish new disciplines aligned with emerging technologies, industries, and business models.

The plan also highlights strengthening infrastructure and the broader ecosystem for “AI Plus Education,” while expanding the use of AI to support student learning, educational management, and scientific research. By 2030, China aims to build a comprehensive AI-driven education system that spans all stages of education and extends across society.
