According to South Chine Morning Post, the initiative aims to prepare the workforce for future technologies. The “AI + Education” program, developed by the Ministry of Education and four other government bodies, covers all stages of education. The plan is based on a long-term strategy extending to 2035.

Officials say the move is driven by intensifying global competition. The United States, the European Union, and Singapore are also increasing investments in AI-related education. China aims to strengthen AI knowledge and skills nationwide.

Under the plan, a unified national AI infrastructure will be established. The government intends to merge fragmented local systems into a centralized platform to improve efficiency.

Artificial intelligence will be introduced gradually across the education system. Schools will focus on developing students’ problem-solving and creative thinking skills, while universities will offer foundational AI courses. Vocational and lifelong learning programs will also be updated to reflect the technological transformation of the labor market.

The plan includes reforms in teacher training as well. AI literacy will be incorporated into certification and licensing requirements. Funding for the initiative will come from the central government budget, with local authorities and educational institutions also expected to support the reforms.
