According to CBS News, the storm system moved through the state overnight Tuesday, bringing significant snowfall to the mountains and foothills, where accumulations reached between 15 and 20 inches in some areas. Snow continued into Wednesday afternoon, creating hazardous conditions not only in higher elevations but also across the Eastern Plains and urban corridors.

Roads across the state became slick and snow-covered, making the Wednesday morning commute particularly dangerous. In the Denver metropolitan area, unplowed neighborhood streets, along with bridges and overpasses, posed additional risks due to ice buildup.

In response, several of Colorado’s largest school districts including Denver Public Schools, Aurora Public Schools, and Jefferson County Public Schools announced closures for Wednesday. Officials cited safety concerns for students, staff, and families amid worsening travel conditions. Denver Public Schools also confirmed that all school-related events and activities were canceled for the day, with the exception of CHSAA-sanctioned competitions.

Other districts, including Douglas County and Boulder Valley, followed suit, calling off classes as the storm intensified.

Weather officials warned residents to limit travel and prepare for continued winter conditions, noting that the heavy, moisture-rich snow could also lead to downed tree branches and localized power outages.
