The Deutsches Museum in Munich, Germany, offers the Scholar-in-Residence Fellowship Program for international researchers. Each year, the museum awards 6–12 month fellowships to scholars working on projects that connect science, technology, and culture. Fellows are given access to the museum’s extensive collections, archives, and libraries to support their research. The program aims to foster innovative studies and interdisciplinary exchange, making the museum a hub for global academic collaboration.

Eligibility

  • All nationalities are welcome to apply
  • Open to researchers at all levels, as long as you hold at least a Master’s degree (BA is insufficient)
    • This includes pre-doctoral and post-doctoral scholars
  • Good English and Passive German language skills required to access library and archive materials

Program Dates/Location

  • Application Deadline (for 2026 placements): October 15, 2025
  • Fellowship Duration: Scholarships run for 6 to 12 months, and must be completed within the same calendar year
  • Location: Munich, Germany, at the Deutsches Museum’s Research Institute and archives

Program Benefits

  • Monthly Stipends:
    • Pre-doctoral: €1,800/month
    • Post-doctoral: €2,700/month
  • Workplace included with desktop computer (and telephone in some cases), plus possible subsidized housing at the museum complex, if available
