According to Fox News, police detained Naya Brown in connection with the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Keon Gill. Authorities say the incident occurred after Gill and his 35-year-old brother had celebrated a birthday at a restaurant.
Investigators said the two brothers were leaving the restaurant around 3 a.m. when they became involved in an argument with Brown, Pernell Warren and a third unidentified man. During the dispute, gunfire erupted. Gill was shot in the chest and died at the scene, while his brother was shot in the knee but survived.
Police said Brown is the second person arrested in connection with the case. In February, 37-year-old Pernell Warren was also taken into custody and charged with murder. Authorities are still searching for a third suspect whose identity has not yet been disclosed.
Sources told local media that Brown does not appear to be the person who fired the shots, and her exact role in the killing remains unclear.
A spokesperson for the New York City Department of Education described the allegations as “deeply troubling,” adding that the department would seek Brown’s termination if the accusations are confirmed.
The arrest comes amid growing concerns about violence in the Bronx. Earlier in February, another shooting in the borough left a teenager dead. A 17-year-old suspect was later arrested and is currently facing multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of a loaded firearm.
Local officials said that incident also began as a street dispute before escalating into gun violence, highlighting what authorities describe as a troubling surge of youth-related violence in the area.
