Egypt and South Korea Partner on $15 Million Digital Education Project

CAIRO — Egypt and South Korea have announced a partnership to enhance digital education in Egyptian schools, with South Korea committing $15 million to a five-year program set to begin in 2027. The announcement followed a meeting between South Korea’s Ambassador to Egypt, Kim Yonghyon, and Egypt’s Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdel-Latif.

The initiative will dedicate 2026 to preparatory studies aimed at identifying the technical and educational needs of participating schools. The program will then be implemented across 54 public middle schools in all 27 governorates.

The project is designed to:

  • Integrate ICT tools into classrooms.
  • Strengthen teachers’ digital skills.
  • Enhance school infrastructure, including computer labs and internet connectivity.
  • Modernize administrative and evaluation systems.

Under the partnership, South Korea will provide its expertise in information and communication technology (ICT) and digital education, helping to design effective learning tools and teacher training programs. Egypt will implement the program locally, upgrading school infrastructure, rolling out ICT integration, and ensuring that teachers and students across all governorates benefit from the initiative.

This collaboration reflects the long-standing 30-year diplomatic relationship between Egypt and South Korea. It also aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which emphasizes digital education as a key factor in preparing youth for the demands of the modern knowledge economy.
