Applications are currently open for the FIAS Fellowship Program 2026/27 in France. This is a fully funded opportunity available to individuals of all nationalities. The fellowship lasts for 10 months and is hosted by the French Institutes for Advanced Study (FIAS), which includes seven prominent research institutions across France. The program aims to support researchers and scholars in carrying out original and innovative research projects within the country. For the 2026 cycle, up to 28 fellowships will be awarded. The fellowship package includes coverage for relocation, housing, round-trip airfare, a salary, allowances, and additional benefits.

Eligibility

  • FIAS welcomes candidates from all countries.
  • FIAS awards fellowships to outstanding researchers at all career levels, from postdoctoral to senior scientists.
  • Minimum Requirement: A PhD plus two years of research experience after obtaining the PhD. (PhD training time is not counted.)
  • Mobility Rule: Applicants must not have resided or primarily worked in France for more than 12 months within the three years immediately preceding the application deadline.

Areas of Research

FIAS welcomes candidates to conduct research in the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH), as well as in all other research fields that interface with SSH.

What's Covered?

  • A net living allowance (equivalent to take-home pay) of €2,200 per month: It will be delivered to all fellows in the context of a work/fixed-amount contract.
  • French labour legislation and all insurance obligations will be strictly enforced. 
  • Accommodation or support for relocation is also provided for successful applicants. FIAS will provide fellows with accommodation suitable for their family situation (from studios to 5-room apartments). All the successful applicants will benefit from the support of the FIAS Programme officer and IAS administrative staff for arrangements relating to work contracts and other administrative, professional, social and logistical issues (e.g. negotiating academic leave, finding accommodation, etc.).

Note: The presentation must detail the scientific goals of the project, its relation to the current state of the art, the proposed methodology, the expected scientific outcomes, and a justification for the fellowship duration in light of its anticipated impact on both the research project and the applicant’s career development. An additional page may be included for the bibliography. The names of up to three scholars to be excluded from the peer-review process may be listed at the end of the document.
