A 17-year-old former student armed with a shotgun opened fire at the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Şanlıurfa, Türkiye today. The suspect, identified as Ö.K., entered the school grounds in the Hasan Çelebi neighborhood and began shooting indiscriminately in the courtyard and hallways before taking his own life at the scene.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed that 16 people were wounded in the assault, including ten students, four teachers, a police officer, and a canteen operator. Şanlıurfa Governor Hasan Şıldak has provided a formal update following a distressing shooting incident that resulted in 16 injuries. In a statement aimed at reassuring the public, the Governor confirmed that while the attack targeted a group including ten students, four teachers, one police officer, and a cafeteria operator, there have been no fatalities reported.

The medical response began immediately at Siverek State Hospital, where twelve of the wounded are currently receiving meticulous care. Due to the nature of their injuries, four individuals whose conditions were assessed as moderate were transferred to more advanced, full-service hospitals in the provincial center to ensure they receive specialized treatment. Among those transferred was one student whose status required the higher level of care available at the regional facilities.

Governor Şıldak expressed profound relief that the incident did not result in a loss of life and extended his best wishes for a speedy recovery to all the victims. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the investigation into the shooting proceeds.

In the wake of the tragedy, local authorities have suspended education at the school for four days. According to the TRT Haber, Provincial education officials have also launched a rehabilitation program to provide psychological support to the traumatized students and staff. Security forces remain on-site as a large-scale investigation continues into the motives behind the attack.
