The Fung Global Fellows Program is a fellowship hosted by Princeton University (administered by the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies, PIIRS). It brings together early-career scholars from outside the United States for an academic year of research, writing, and collaboration. Each year has a common theme (for 2026-27, “The Politics of the Archive”). The goal is to foster international scholarly exchange in the humanities and social sciences, to allow fellows to develop their work and engage with Princeton’s research community.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be an early-career scholar with a PhD (or equivalent) received after September 1, 2016.
  • Applicants must hold a faculty appointment or professional research position outside the U.S., and be expected to return to that position after the fellowship.
  • Current PhD students or post-docs (without a regular faculty / professional research post) are not eligible.
  • Must have demonstrated “outstanding scholarly achievement” and “unusual intellectual promise,” with past work plus a project aligned with the program theme.
  • Must contribute to intellectual life of the program (seminars, collaboration) and represent diversity in disciplinary and geographic background.

  • If an offer is made and applicable: an official letter from the current employer confirming permission to accept the fellowship and spend the year at Princeton.
