HENNGE’s fully funded Global Internship Program (GIP) in Tokyo offers 4–6 week internships for aspiring software engineers. Interns work on real projects at HENNGE’s Shibuya office, focusing on either Full Stack or Front-end software engineering.  Aimed at ambitious students, recent graduates, and emerging tech talent, the internship offers hands-on training in modern programming languages such as Python, Go, and TypeScript, alongside exposure to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other advanced cloud technologies. The program provides a monthly subsidy, visa support, round-trip airfare, medical insurance, and cultural events. 

Eligibility

Full Stack Engineering Pathway

Essential Requirements:

  • Education Level: Applicants must be in their third year of undergraduate studies or higher, including Master’s and Doctoral students. Recent graduates are also encouraged to apply.
  • Academic Background: A degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred. Candidates from other fields may apply if they have equivalent practical experience, such as completing a reputable tech bootcamp or having previous tech internship experience.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is required, as it is the primary working language at HENNGE. No Japanese language skills are necessary.
  • Programming Proficiency: Strong skills in Python or Go are required, with the ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
  • Technical Environment Knowledge: Familiarity with Linux, macOS, or other Unix-like operating systems is expected, as development will take place in these environments.
  • Community Engagement: Interest in open-source projects or active participation in technology communities is a plus, as it reflects collaboration skills and curiosity.
  • Career Motivation: A genuine interest in pursuing a career in Japan, particularly in the technology sector, will give candidates a significant advantage.

Preferred Additional Skills (meet at least three):

  • Hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms (especially AWS)
  • Practical exposure to full stack web application development
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and their architecture
  • Understanding of DevOps tools and practices (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code)
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker

Front-end Engineering Pathway

Essential Requirements:

  • Education Level: Same as above — third-year undergraduate or higher, including Master’s and Doctoral students, as well as recent graduates.
  • Academic Background: Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience from a tech internship or intensive bootcamp program.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English; Japanese language skills are not required.
  • Framework Proficiency: Strong skills in front-end frameworks such as React or Vue, with development in TypeScript.
  • Technical Environment Knowledge: Familiarity with Linux, macOS, or other Unix-like operating systems.
  • Community Engagement: Active interest in open-source projects or technology meetups/events.
  • Career Motivation: Serious consideration of a career in Japan in front-end or full-stack development.

For the Front-end Pathway, HENNGE looks for creative, user-focused developers with a broad technical perspective. The best candidates will:

  • Have experience with back-end or full stack development in addition to front-end expertise
  • Understand the importance of thoughtful UI/UX design
  • Be familiar with cloud services and DevOps tools
  • Bring a well-rounded, product-oriented mindset to building engaging user experiences

NOTE: If applicants are interested in applying for both pathways, submit separate applications using different email address for the coding challenge.

Program Dates/Location

  • Right now, baches are only open for Full Stack Engineering poition. Internship slots may close up to 4 months before the batch start date or when all slots are filled, whichever comes first. So for Batch 1 (starting Jan 16, 2026), applications could close as early as mid-September 2025. For Batch 2 (starting Mar 16, 2026), applications could close as early as mid-November 2025.

Intern Responsibilities

  • Full Stack Software Engineering Pathway
    • Build end-to-end solutions using Python, Go, and/or TypeScript.
    • Explore full stack development, cloud computing, and distributed systems.
    • Internship Flow:
      • Weeks 1-3: Full Stack Training
      • Week 4: DevOps Training
      • Weeks 5-6 (seasonal): Special Assignment - a unique project for each intern and specific to their batch.
  • Front-end Software Engineering Pathway
    • Master application development in TypeScript with React or Vue.
    • Immerse yourself in front-end frameworks and design impactful user experiences.
    • Internship Flow:
      • Weeks 1-4: Application Development Training
      • Week 5: DevOps Training
