International Teams Bring Innovation and Excitement to STEAM Azerbaijan Festival 2025

The International STEAM Azerbaijan Festival 2025 in Baku has attracted talented teams from across the globe.

Representatives of the German and Swiss teams provided insights into their preparations, inspirations, and what competing on this international stage means to them, as they spoke with local media ahead of the competition.

The “ESO H2 Beast” team, representing the Oberwiesenthal Winter Sports Union School in Saxony, Germany, is led by 16-year-old Albert Bergman. Reflecting on their experience, Albert said they competed in the world finals in Germany earlier this year and have been part of the competition circuit for four consecutive seasons.

Despite his young age, Albert leads one of Germany’s strongest student engineering teams. Explaining their project, he noted: “We receive a starter kit from Horizon and then fully upgrade and optimize it to make the car stronger, faster, and more efficient. Our vehicle runs on hydrogen.”

Speaking about Germany’s approach to STEAM education, Albert noted that student teams begin forming as early as the fifth grade. Their own passion grew naturally: “Our interest in cars originally came from movies. Fast cars always catch boys’ attention, so we naturally gravitated toward this field.”

The young team captain also shared his excitement about being in Baku: “We’re really thrilled to be here and can’t wait for the moment we get to compete.”

The Swiss delegation is also considered a strong contender at SAF 2025, represented by a team of highly motivated students aged 8 to 12 who have undergone intensive preparation for the festival.

Team representative Sebastian Etter shared his first impressions: “We completed all our preparations in Switzerland, and the students received thorough training before arriving here.”

He praised the team’s dedication and talent, adding: “They are very smart and gifted. Right now, they are preparing for the next stage of today’s program.”
