The Times Higher Education World University Ranking is an annual publication by the leading British education magazine Times Higher Education. Subject rankings are based on 18 rigorous performance indicators, grouped under five core pillars: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.

MIT’s top-ranked disciplines are housed in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (SHASS), the School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P), and the MIT Sloan School of Management.

In Arts and Humanities, 817 universities from 74 countries were evaluated across languages, literature and linguistics, history, philosophy, theology, architecture, archaeology, art, performing arts, and design. MIT claimed the top spot in this subject for the second consecutive year.

In Business and Economics, 1,067 institutions from 91 countries and territories were assessed in three core areas: business and management, accounting and finance, and economics and econometrics. MIT has been ranked first in this field for the fifth consecutive year.

In Social Sciences, 1,202 institutions from 104 countries and territories were evaluated in political science and international studies, sociology, geography, communication and media studies, and anthropology. MIT achieved first place in this subject for the second year in a row.

MIT also scored highly in other areas, ranking third in Engineering and Life Sciences, and fourth in Computer Science and Physical Sciences. Overall, MIT placed second in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
