The inner-layer clothing that NASA astronauts will wear to the moon was unveiled by Italian fashion house Prada on Sunday. It highlights the brand's ambition to be the first significant luxury player to gain traction in the space industry.

Ventilation tubes are stitched into the body-hugging suit, which was designed in partnership with Houston-based space infrastructure firm Axiom Space. The garment has a separate ventilation system that continually pumps oxygen across the astronaut's face to remove carbon dioxide that has been breathed. This carbon dioxide is then sent into a life-support system for filtration and reuse.

The outer protective AxEMU shell of the suit, which the businesses first introduced in 2024, is intended to be worn directly against the skin beneath the inner layer. According to reports, Prada helped create the outfit with its knowledge of sophisticated 3D modeling, high-tech knitting, and specialty textiles.

According to Axiom, the clothing is made to endure the severe conditions of the lunar South Pole and be both comfortable and thermally regulating enough to support spacewalks lasting up to eight hours.
