Applications are now open for the fully funded NHR Scholarships 2026 in Germany, offering international students the chance to pursue advanced research in Germany. NHR (National High-Performance Computing) Scholarship is a specific PhD scholarship program that provides a generous monthly stipend of €2200 for up to three years. It is specifically aimed at outstanding researchers interested in specializing in High-Performance Computing (HPC), supporting their contributions to cutting-edge developments in science and technology.

Eligibility

  • Students of all genders and backgrounds can apply for PhD scholarship at NHR. 

  • Applicants must have completed a master’s degree program in the fields of computer science, mathematics, natural sciences, engineering, or a related field.

  • Applicants must meet the general PhD admission requirements of the university where the NHR Center is located (https://www.nhr-verein.de/sites/default/files/2025-04/GradS_Call_2026_Funding_Guidelines.pdf

  • Applicants must also fulfill the subject-specific doctoral regulations of the faculty/department offering the PhD.

Help for checking requirements:

  • First, choose your target NHR Center (for example, TU Dresden, TUM, Universität Stuttgart, or other full member universities listed here).
  • Visit that university’s website and go to the relevant faculty or doctoral office.
  • Look for the “Promotionsordnung” (doctoral regulations) for your subject, usually titled Promotion [subject name].
  • Check for any extra admission rules such as GPA requirements, specific coursework, research prerequisites, or language requirements.
  • Make sure your master’s degree and application satisfy both:
    • The university‑level PhD admission criteria, and
    • The subject‑specific doctoral regulations.

Program Dates

  • Application Deadline: (including) September 15, 2025
  • Duration of funding: April 1, 2026 - March 31, 2029 (up to 36 months)

Note: If you finished your studies at a school, college, or university where you passed English as a subject, you can submit an official certificate or a letter from the institution to prove your English skills.

    It is important to note that only applications submitted via the application form in full by Sept. 15, will be considered. Applications submitted via email will not be considered.

  • Upload Needed Documents (provided in ‘Required Documents’) 

Important Information

  • After submitting your online application, you must merge all required documents (letter of motivation, CV, research statement, academic transcripts, proof of proficiency in English) in one PDF file and send your application via email scholarship@nhr-verein.de

  • The application is online, however, the merged PDF must be sent via email.

  • The respective recommender has to send the letter of recommendation directly to https://www.nhr-verein.de/scholarship@nhr-verein.de 

In both cases, use the reference: <Application NHR Graduate School>. The file size should not exceed 10 MB.
