The incident took place on June 4 in the parking lot of Fairfield High School in the city of Fairfield, about 80 kilometers northeast of San Francisco. Police received reports of gunfire at around 7:15 p.m. local time, CNN reports.

According to law enforcement, the injured victims are aged 11, 20 and 25. The 11-year-old is reported to be in stable condition, while the 18-year-old victim died from gunshot wounds.

The shooting happened shortly after the graduation ceremony of Sem Yeto High School. Around 1,000 people were attending the ceremony, and hundreds of people were still on the school grounds when the incident occurred.

Witnesses said that several gunshots were heard while graduates and their families were taking photos in the parking lot. At first, people were confused about what was happening, but panic quickly spread as they tried to escape the area.

Police said the suspect or suspects are still at large. No arrests have been made so far, and investigators are continuing to interview multiple witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.

Following the incident, the Fairfield-Suisun school district announced that security measures will be increased at upcoming graduation ceremonies. The graduation ceremony for Fairfield High School, which was scheduled for the following day, has also been moved to another school stadium. The school district also said that counseling and psychological support services are being provided for students and families affected by the tragedy.
