Teachers in Hungary Will Receive Up to 1 Million HUF in Annual Housing Support from 2026
From January 2026, educators will qualify for 1 million HUF per year to assist with mortgage payments and home purchases.
Starting January 1, 2026, teachers in Hungary will be eligible for an annual net housing support of 1 million forints, according to a government announcement made by Parliamentary State Secretary Balázs Hidvéghi. The support aims to ease housing costs and help strengthen the stability and long-term commitment of educators in the public sector.
The new measure forms part of a broader program providing financial assistance to public-sector employees.
The 1 million HUF annual assistance can be applied toward:
- Repaying an existing mortgage, or
- Providing the down payment for a new home loan
The support is available to educators working in the public sector for the full tax year. Part-time teachers are also eligible, receiving a proportional amount based on their working hours. If both partners in a household are public-sector employees, each may claim the support individually.
