Times Higher Education (THE) has opened its data submission portal for the next World University Rankings 2027 and Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR 2027). Universities from around the world are invited to participate in both rankings.

The portal will remain open until 30 March, and participation is free of charge. Only universities that submit their data through the portal will be included in the rankings. Both rankings will be published in autumn 2026.

Universities wishing to participate in ISR 2027 (a project in collaboration with Schmidt Science Fellows) must first submit data for the World University Rankings and then provide additional interdisciplinary science data through the same portal, as in previous years.

Data submission is open to all universities, but only those meeting specific inclusion criteria will be ranked. Universities that do not meet the ranking requirements are still encouraged to submit data, as they can access benchmarking tools via THE DataPoints platform and, unless they opt out, will be listed as “reporter” institutions.

THE has also launched a new Essential Dashboard subscription for DataPoints. This allows ranked universities to compare performance against international peers across 17 metrics, access detailed data behind the rankings, and receive their results two weeks before official publication. Universities can subscribe through the data portal or via the relevant application form.

Phil Baty, THE’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, said the aim is to make actionable, data-driven insights more accessible. Participation in the rankings remains free, while the new subscription is offered at a highly accessible price.

Guidance on submitting data is available in multiple languages on the portal. After the portal closes at the end of March, universities may be contacted to verify their data.

Last year, THE collected data from more than 3,000 universities across 136 regions to produce the World University Rankings 2026, with Elsevier analyzing 18.7 million research publications and 174.9 million citations.

Data submitted this year will be used not only for the global and subject-specific rankings but also for regional rankings, including THE’s lists of top universities in the Arab world, Asia, and Latin America.
