According to schoolsweek.co.uk, ministers are putting forward an initiative to carry out a significant reform of school food standards. It proposes a range of measures to reduce foods high in fat, salt, and sugar.

The authorities are discussing possible changes to the legislation governing food in all state schools, with the aim of introducing fresher and healthier options and addressing issues related to rising childhood obesity and other problems.

The reform would include bans on deep-fried food and dishes with high sugar content. It also proposes a rule to include vegetables with every meal.

If approved, the new rules will be fully implemented in primary schools from September 2027, while their introduction in secondary schools will take place gradually.
