The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) is a merit-based award for outstanding non-EU/EEA students pursuing a Master’s (MSc) degree at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. It offers financial support ranging from €3,000 to €22,000 per year, intended to help cover study-related expenses, not tuition. Recipients may also be eligible for one of the three honours tracks: Research Honours, Design Honours, or Change Leaders.

Eligibility 

  • Be from a non-EU/EEA country (Dutch, EU, or EEA students are not eligible)
  • Apply and receive (conditional) admission to a qualifying UT Master’s program (excluding ITC Geo-Information Science and Pre-Master programs)
  • Not be a current or former UT student at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Have a valid UT student number before applying
  • Meet English language requirements
    • Academic IELTS ≥ 6.5 overall with ≥ 6.0 in speaking, or TOEFL iBT ≥ 90 with ≥ 20 in speaking
  • Not be eligible for a Dutch study loan or grant
  • Be in the top 5–10% of the academic class (merit-based)
  • Comply with Dutch visa requirements, if necessary

Program Dates/Location

The application opens in two rounds for programs starting September 2026:

  1. Round 1
    • Opens: 15 October 2025, 09:00 CET
    • Closes: 1 February 2026, 16:00 CET
  2. Round 2
    • Opens: 1 February 2026, 16:00 CET
    • Closes: 1 May 2026, 16:00 CEST

Note: If you apply in Round 1 and are not selected, you cannot reapply in Round 2

Program Benefits

  • Financial Grant: €3,000 to €22,000 for one academic year, paid directly to you to use as needed, not covering tuition
  • Second-Year Renewal: For two-year programs, you may qualify for the same amount in your second year if you:
    • Achieve at least an average grade of 7/10 by the end of the third quarter of Year 1
    • Complete at least 50% of your European Credits by that time
  • Honours Track Access: Option to join Research, Design, or Change Leaders honours tracks

Application Process

  1. Apply for a UT Master’s program and obtain (conditional) admission and a student number.
    1. Register via Studielink
      Begin your application through the Studielink portal, the Dutch national application system. This is mandatory for all applicants, regardless of nationality.
    2. Submit Required Documents
      After registering in Studielink, you'll receive instructions to upload necessary documents in the university's OSIRIS application portal. Ensure all documents are submitted before the deadline.
    3. Pay the Application Fee
      Applicants with a non-Dutch diploma are required to pay a non-refundable application fee.
    4. Receive Conditional Admission
      Upon review of your application, UT will provide conditional admission if you meet the program's requirements.
    5. Obtain Student Number
      After acceptance, you'll receive a student number, which is necessary for applying for the scholarship.
  2. Submit a separate scholarship application via the university’s online portal using your student number.
  3. Ensure all required documents are uploaded.
  4. Applications are reviewed by academic committees; selection is competitive.
