The Yenching Academy Scholarship is a fully funded Master’s-level scholarship at Peking University, Beijing, China. It aims to attract outstanding students from around the world to engage in interdisciplinary China Studies, with the goal of cultivating global leaders who understand China in multiple dimensions.

Eligibility

  • Hold (or be on track to receive by August 31, 2026) a Bachelor’s degree in any field.
  • Outstanding academic record.
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary study of China.
  • Demonstrated extracurricular achievements, social responsibility, leadership potential.
  • English proficiency:
    • IELTS (Academic): 7.0 overall
    • TOEFL iBT: 100 overall
    • Cambridge English Advanced: 185
    • CET-6: 600
    • TEM 4: pass level “良好” or above
  • Some exemptions: if native English speaker or graduated from an English-taught degree, test may be waived. Regions like Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan still need to submit test scores even if English-taught background.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit via Yenching Academy’s online portal in English:

  • Completed online application form via the Yenching Academy admissions portal
  • Personal statement (≤ 750 words)
  • Statement of Research Interest (≤ 1,500 words, excluding citations)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Official transcripts
  • Diploma(s) or Enrollment Certificate(s) (if still studying)
  • Two academic letters of recommendation (must be from full professors or associate professors / equivalent, in the applicant’s intended field)
  • English proficiency test report unless exempted under specified conditions
